漆黒のお色に、全面に金七宝(しっぽう)つなぎデザインです。
The jet black colour is covered with a gold shippo (seven treasures) design.
幾つもの円を、四文の一ずつ上下左右に連続してずらして重ねた文様。
上下左右(東西南北)の四方どの方向にも永遠に続くことから、縁起が良いとされ「四方」→「しっぽう」→「七宝」と呼ぶようになったそうです。
また、「輪違い繋ぎ文」とも呼ばれ、円がどこまでも連鎖している様子から円満や調和、あるいは縁に対する祈りが込められた文様です。
ちなみに七つの宝とは、金、銀、瑠璃、めのう、さんご、水晶、パールのことを指しています。
A pattern created by shifting several circles one by one in all directions (up, down, left, and right) and overlapping them.
Since it continues endlessly in all four directions (north, south, east, and west), it is considered auspicious, and came to be called ‘shippou’ (four directions) → ‘shippou’ (seven treasures).
It is also called ‘wheel-shaped connected pattern,’ and the pattern, which shows circles chaining endlessly, is said to contain prayers for harmony, balance, and good fortune.
By the way, the seven treasures refer to gold, silver, lapis lazuli, agate, coral, crystal, and pearls.
