Glass + lacquer. GLASS JAPAN is the result of a combination of traditional Kuroe techniques and new ideas.
The new lacquerware by lacquer painter Yoshihiko Fujii combines the transparency of glass with the rich expressiveness of lacquer, while designer Eri Inaba's sensibility resonates with the new Western tableware Perla.

By applying a special lacquer resin, dyed with pearl dyes, to the back of the glass, a pearl design, which could not be achieved with glass colouring, is created using lacquerware techniques, resulting in a very beautiful object.

"The image of my favourite city... Kobe, a port town with a deep connection to pearls, is expressed in the texture of pearls and the tradition of Kuroe, a town of lacquerware. I expressed this with the texture of pearls and the pale colours of the lacquerware town of Kuroe."
